I’ve been enjoying a lot of quiet time lately, during which I ponder on the vicious cycle of the corporate world and adulthood. We’re always going somewhere, rushing to meet people, clamoring for the corner office and we end up losing sight of yourself.

Someone once said to a friend that always felt she wasn’t beautiful: “you’re too used to your features. Look from the outside in” and I thought it was a profound statement. We get so familiar with the people and things closest to us that we lose sight of their beauty.

In the midst of the hustle and bustle that comes with adulting, I have learnt to take occasional breaks and re-connect with the little kid in me. At the end of the day, nobody will love you any better than you love yourself.

So don’t live a little, live a lot. Wake up in the morning and do something special or different every day. Brew that perfect cup of tea, blend that smoothie up, collect fresh flowers, smile at a total stranger, say thank you and remember to appreciate those in your sphere of contact today.
