You don’t need to be a Hallmark Holiday enthusiast before booking a Valentine’s getaway, right? There’s just something about travelling and exploring your wanderlust with that special someone that even if dramatic gestures make you cringe, Valentine is one time of the year you’re bound to get mushy.
Bringing things home and allowing reality smack us right in the face, we know that we don’t have winter retreats, secluded cabins or an abundance of romantic destinations surrounding our locality, but as always, I have come through for you guys and I’ve rounded up 4 locations and activities that you can visit or engage in with your partner to make the best of the day.
1. A Power Couple Workout: Getting fit is always easier if you’ve got someone to motivate you and there’s no one better than the one you love. This year, put a hold on all the traditional rituals of the day and start off with a power workout. You could decide to head to the gym together, jog along the curb, strengthen your body and your bond. I personally enjoy long walks up Ministers Hill just at the crack of dawn and I never forget to take a bottle of water because by the time I complete my circuit and start making my way back, my throat gets super dry.
2. Consider a Digital Detox: There’s no doubt that technology has changed the way we relate today. Our smart phones have become an extension of our bodies, such that to leave home without it is like forgetting a limb at home. But as much s technology has affected our lives for the better, it can also be a cost in your relationship when you’re always online. So consider putting your devices away for the whole day, the whole night or the entire weekend and just be present with each other.
3. Spend the day at Jabi Boat Club: Jabi Boat Club commenced operations last year every time I visit, It’s as if a new attraction has been added. Abuja isn’t exactly graced with the existence of a beach but so far, the boat club is doing a good job in taking our minds away from that fact. There’s something soothing about sinking my feet into sand at the boat club, being surrounded by a large water body and loads of greenery that makes me feel as I’m on a different continent. We secured our spot, laid out our sheet and basked in the moment.
4. Dinner & A Dance: As if Valentine’s Day would be complete without dinner and slow dancing. You may choose to switch things up a bit this year by going to a secluded location, ensure they’ve got some great background music on (I prefer folk songs), put on a nice dress and have a friggin’ good time.
I hope you find this post helpful. Leave a comment below and lets get interactive. Happy Love Day.
